On Wednesday May 29th, Mr. Colombe and Mrs. Leo’s classes participated in the 12th Annual Hamilton Children’s Water Festival at Bayfront Park. The out of school learning opportunity educated students about the importance of water conservation, technology, science and protection. Students enjoyed the expertise of specialists and members of local industry that provided interactive demonstrations, displays, and exhibits. They participated in a variety of activities – learning about the importance of hand washing, healthy aquatic habitats, and the power of mussels! Students also learned how water conservation is related to tree planting, nursery protection, and storage. Every student received a bare root tree to bring home to plant, nurture and care for. By the end of the day, students felt encouraged to make changes in their homes, schools, and communities. They gained a newfound respect of their own environment, and they helping to protect the water we love!
