On February 12, 2020, the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) and Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) served notice of their intention to engage in a one-day, province-wide, full withdrawal of services on Friday, February 21, 2020.
This one-day, full withdrawal of services is in addition to previous sanctions initiated by OECTA and OSSTF.
OECTA represents approximately 2,300 permanent and occasional teachers in the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board. Approximately 60 ESL/LINC and LBS instructors, assessors and child minders at our St. Charles Adult and Continuing Education Centres are represented by OSSTF.
In the interest of student safety, the board will be closing all schools and St. Charles adult learning centres to students on Friday, February 21, 2020,
unless a provincial agreement with one or both employee groups is reached before that time.
Other programs/services may also be impacted by the OECTA and OSSTF strike action. These include:Elementary & Secondary Schools
Closed to students. All after-hours programming and student activities (athletics, clubs, CYO, etc.) will be cancelled. St. Charles Adult & Continuing Education
All Credit, ESL, LINC, LBS and child minding programs at all of our St. Charles Adult and Continuing Education Centres will be cancelled on Friday, February 21st. Elementary International Languages will run, as per usual.Childcare/EarlyON
Childcare centres/EarlyON will remain open.Community Use of Schools
Community Use of School permits will be supported; schools are open.Third party leases/Community partnerships
Third party leases will be supported; sites are open.
Should a settlement be reached in the meantime, schools will be open on Friday, February 21, 2020 and regular programming will resume.
